Directory Submission – Manual or Automatic?

If you're new here, you may want to join Universal Site Directory by Registering Here. Thanks for visiting!

If you are a website owner, one of primary areas of concern for you would be to find and implement ways to generate traffic. On the internet and elsewhere there is a vast literature available on ideas about generating traffic.

Submitting your website to directories is one such option to generate traffic. There are two main advantage of this:

  1. Many of these link directories have their own visitors who love to find websites they are interested in by just browsing through the directory.
  2. The second advantage is that many of these directories are highly ranked in the search engines and thus have quite a few pages with high page ranks. This means that they are quite likely to give you a boost in the search engine rankings.

So as a webmaster, you’re going to get backlinks because of your website being listed on the directory as well as targeted visitors.

Keep in mind that these are different than article directories. Link directories are generally collections of links from all around the Internet. Some of them are focused specifically on one single niche, while others are collections of websites from many different niches. Universal Site Directory is not a single niche directory. The vision of this site is to become a definitive database of websites in the next two years. You can be part of this vision and submit your website here.

There are two ways in which you can submit your website to directories:

  1. Automatic using some kind of automation software, and / or
  2. Manually – doing it yourself or outsourcing the task to a third party.

We believe that to get the best results from directory submissions, one should manually submit their website as against the automated route even though it is a very slow and at times a tedious process.

The reasons are:

  1. This way you can monitor the quality of the submission. Universal Site directory requires you to give a brief description of your website and also give a small list of keywords associated with your website. If you submit your website manually, you will be able to do justice to both the description and the keywords. You will also be able to specify exactly the category under which your website should be listed. These finer points are lost when you make an automated submission.
  2. You do not submit to a large number of directories all of a sudden and therefore the back links that you would accumulate would be slow and steady – that is they would be natural and hence you will not be raising any red flags with search engine whose primary task is to offer quality content to their customers.
  3. You can also decide which directories to submit to.
  4. You would also be able to develop a relationship with the directory managers and that we believe can be a very good asset in the longer term.

Please note that building brand equity takes a long time and so does building trust and traffic to your website. Nothing happens overnight and therefore one needs to be patient and build high search engine rankings over a period of time – if any one says that it is possible to get internet visitor traffic overnight, then you can believe the statement only at your own peril.

So in a single line – please do submit your website to directories, but do it manually if you want desired results.
